Benefits of Microneedling with PRP

What does microneedling do?

Microneedling uses a special device with micro-needles to puncture the skin. This creates micro-injuries which stimulate collagen production as your skin heals.  It leads to smoother, firmer, more youthful skin.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), is an innovative aesthetic procedure that combines platelet rich plasma with microneedling performed on a patient’s face but can be performed on any body area needing resurface or improvement in appearance. It is also sometimes referred to as the Vampire Facial.

What is PRP (platelet-rich plasma)?

PRP contains growth factor, proteins, and cytokines. PRP stimulates the production of new collagen, stem cells, and overall improves the texture, color, and vibrancy of skin. The growth factors in PRP then activate multipotent stem cells already in the skin (tricking them into “thinking” there’s been an injury and new younger tissue should be generated). PRP promote quicker healing, reduces the appearance of pigmentation and scarring.

What skin conditions can microneedling treat?

How is the treatment done?

Blood is taken from the patient’s arm and then the sample is processed in a centrifuge that separates the PRP from the other blood products. The PRP is extracted from the sample tube and is applied to the treatment area during the microneedling process providing deep penetration of the growth factors and PRP products into the skin.  Our microneedling is performed by a licensed esthetician and our aesthetic nurse and have been specifically trained on the SkinPen as well as use of PRP for aesthetic procedures.

A numbing cream is then applied topically to prevent the patient from experiencing too much discomfort during the microneedling procedure.

When will I see results?

The number of treatments that a person receives will vary.  Results will start to appear within 1-3 weeks as the skin begins to heal and collagen and elastin are produced, with continued improvement over the next few months. Most people require repeat treatments to achieve optimal results from microneedling with or withoutPRP. Larger scars or burn may take longer to respond to treatment.

People with acne scars may notice a gradual improvement in the skin in less than 9 months.

Treatment takes about 45-60 minutes which includes the process for obtaining the PRP. There is little to no downtime and does not have the restrictions associated with laser treatments.

Is microneedling safe on my skin type?

People usually respond well to microneedling treatments and require only minimal recovery time. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, microneedling “is safe for all skin colors.”

We recommend that you meet with our medical esthetician or aesthetic nurse to discuss your skin concerns and determine the best options for treatment and optimal outcomes.
